  1. Roast meaty bones (beef knuckle, marrow bones, chicken backs and feet, fish heads and frames) at 400°F for 30-45 minutes to develop flavor and aid extraction
  2. Place roasted bones in a stock pot or slow cooker, cover with cold water by 2-3 inches, add 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar per gallon
  3. Let sit 30-60 minutes before heat to allow acid to begin demineralizing bone
  4. Bring to a bare simmer (not a rolling boil — this clouds the broth and breaks down flavor), skim foam in the first hour

Isolated L-Glutamine Supplementation: Dosing and Evidence

Isolated L-glutamine is available as a flavorless white powder, dosed by the teaspoon (typically ~5 g per teaspoon). It dissolves readily in water, juice, or smoothies and has minimal taste. Proline and its hydroxylated derivative hydroxyproline are collagen-specific amino acids that the body uses to rebuild the connective tissue scaffolding of the gut wall.

Glycine has emerged in recent nutrition research as a likely conditionally essential amino acid — endogenous synthesis appears inadequate to meet collagen synthesis demand in many adults consuming typical Western diets. The free glycine in bone broth (~1-2 g per cup) plus the gelatin-bound glycine extracted from collagen contributes 3-5 g per cup.
