Amino Acids and Glutathione for Fluoride
This is the layer underneath everything else. Nothing here binds fluoride or pushes it out. What these do — in the reasoning people use — is keep the body’s own clean-up system supplied while the rest of the protocol is running, so that whatever is mobilised is handled rather than just moved around.

Glutathione — the Master Molecule
Glutathione is the reason this page exists. It is the body’s own principal antioxidant and the centre of how the liver processes and packages things for disposal — which is why it is called the master antioxidant in every detox conversation there is.
The argument people make about fluoride is that the damage attributed to it is oxidative, and that glutathione is the system that handles oxidative damage. So rather than fight fluoride directly, you make sure the system that cleans up after it is not running empty.
The practical catch: swallowing glutathione itself has always been the weak route — it is a tripeptide and much of it is broken down in digestion. So the approach almost everyone takes is to supply the building blocks and let the body assemble its own. Liposomal and S-acetyl forms exist for people who want to take it directly, and the sublingual route is popular for the same reason.
The Three It Is Built From
Glutathione is made from three amino acids, and this is why the shopping list looks the way it does:
- Cysteine — the rate-limiting one. Whatever is short, it is usually this, which is why NAC dominates the conversation.
- Glycine — the second most likely to be short, and cheap.
- Glutamate / glutamine — rarely the bottleneck, and usually already plentiful.
So the standard stack is NAC plus glycine, which between them cover the two that actually limit production.
NAC
N-acetyl-cysteine — the single most-used item on this page.
- Why: it is the reliable way to get cysteine in. It has a long history in hospital medicine for exactly this reason — it is what is given for paracetamol overdose, precisely because it restores liver glutathione. That history is why people trust it for detox work generally.
- Typical use: 600–1,200 mg a day, often split, usually away from food. Some people take it on an empty stomach; others find that harsh.
- Notes people give: it smells of sulphur, and that is normal. It is also used by people for mucus and airways, so a side effect of looser sinuses is common and generally welcome.
Glycine
- Why: the other rate-limiter for glutathione, and the amino acid the liver uses to conjugate things for excretion — that is, to tag them so they can leave.
- Typical use: 3–5 g at bedtime is the common pattern, because glycine is also widely used for sleep and people like the double duty. It is pleasantly sweet and dissolves easily in water.
- The food version: collagen and gelatine are roughly a third glycine, which is why bone broth turns up in every traditional protocol. Modern diets that favour muscle meat over skin, bone and connective tissue are widely argued to be short of it.
Taurine
- Why: a sulphur amino acid used by the liver for conjugation, and taken by people for the heart, the nervous system and bile flow. It appears in most detox stacks.
- Typical use: 1–3 g a day. People often take it with magnesium, since both are used for the calming effect.

Methionine and the Sulphur Group
Methionine is the sulphur amino acid the body can convert toward cysteine by its own route, and it sits at the head of the methylation pathway — which is the other system people talk about when they talk about detox.
- Methionine — usually obtained from food rather than supplemented, since it is plentiful in protein and there are arguments about taking it in isolation.
- MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) — a popular sulphur source in these circles, taken for joints as much as for detox.
- Alpha-lipoic acid — not an amino acid but sulphur-containing, and it recycles other antioxidants including glutathione. Frequently stacked here.
- The methylation nutrients — B12, folate, B6 and betaine — are often added because the methylation and glutathione pathways feed each other.

The consistent advice is to add this layer before ramping up boron or iodine rather than after — people report that the detox reaction is milder when the glutathione side is already supported.
Food Sources
- Bone broth, gelatine, collagen — glycine, and the traditional route.
- Eggs — one of the best sources of sulphur amino acids there is.
- Garlic, onions, leeks — sulphur compounds, and staples of every traditional cleansing diet.
- Cruciferous vegetables — broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli sprouts in particular, which are prized for sulforaphane.
- Whey protein — a well-known cysteine source, if dairy suits you.
- Shellfish and dark meat poultry — taurine. It is largely absent from plant foods, which is why vegetarians often supplement it.
- Asparagus, avocado, spinach — commonly named as glutathione-supporting foods.
Cautions
Before you start. Everything on this page is what people do and report. Some of it is centuries old, some of it is community practice from the last twenty years. Where a substance has a real dose ceiling — boron and iodine above all — the number is given, because the people who get hurt are the ones who assume natural means unlimited. If you are pregnant, on dialysis, have kidney disease or thyroid disease, or take prescription medication, run any protocol past someone who knows your labs first.
- NAC and nitroglycerin is a known interaction — the combination can drop blood pressure sharply. Anyone with angina medication should check first.
- NAC has been reported to worsen things for some people with asthma at high doses. Start low.
- Glycine and clozapine interact; relevant to a small number of people but worth naming.
- Taurine and lithium — taurine is a mild diuretic and can shift lithium levels.
